Meanwhile over in Thailand, a political party has nominated the King's sister as its candidate for prime minister in the March elections.
The 67-year-old Princess Ubolratana Rajakanya earlier on Friday was registered as the prime minister candidate of the Thai Raksa Chart Party.
This unprecedented jump into politics by the Thai royal family is seen as a game changer in the long-awaited election race, as it would put the current junta government and Prime Minister ( ) Prayuth Chan-ocha in the difficult position of running against a royal figure who is much respected among the Thai people.
While parties cannot involve the monarchy in political campaigns, Princess Ubolratana resigned from her royal status in 1972 and since then has "been living a life of a commoner."
However, Thai king Vajiralongkorn says his sister's candidacy for prime minister is 'inappropriate.'
