The unusual birth of Jarasandha | Artha | AMAZING FACTS

Jarasandha was a great devotee of the Hindu god Shiva, who became the great Maharathi in the Mahabharata war. There are many stories found in the scriptures related to this Magadha king’s life, but the most popular one was on his birth. Find out which was he named Jarasandha - the one who is joined by Jara.

1 The ancient Hindu scriptures refer to Jarasandha as a powerful Chandravanshi king who ruled over the earliest ruling dynasty of Magadha called Brihadratha.
2 As per the Hindu epic Mahabharata and the Puranas, King Brihadratha was married to the twin daughters of the King of Kashi.
3 For years the king was not blessed with a child, so he retreated to a forest where he served Rishi Chandakaushika with respect.
4 On finding the cause of his sorrow, the sage gave Brihadratha a fruit as a reward and asked him to feed it to his wife to get a son soon.
5 Since Brihadratha loved both of his wives equally, he got the fruit cut it in half and gave it both of them.
6 Both his wives rather gave birth to two halves of a human child each. Horrified by the sight of the child, the attendants disposed it off.
7 A vicious demoness named Jara found those pieces and held each of them in her two palms. The pieces miraculously joined up into a complete child.
8 The child was alive and he cried out loudly. Jara didn’t have the heart to eat him so she gave it to the king.
9 Overjoyed by reuniting with his lost son, the king named his son after Jara in return of saving his child.
