1 Naivedhya or commonly called Naivedh is the stricter Sanskrit term for food presented to the deities as part of a worship ritual.

2 Naivedhya is the most esteemed part of service to Hindu god in the Shodasa Upacahar and Pancha Upacahar worship.

3 This food includes freshly cooked items and fruits, which is later partaken as Prasad (holy offering).

4 The performer of the worship ritual along with his family has to observe a fast until the offered Naivedhya is accepted by the deity.

5 The tasting of food during preparation or eating the food before offering it to the god is essentially forbidden.

6 Different foods items are offered to different deities, for example, Kheer or Sheera for Lord Vishnu, Modak for Lord Ganapati and so on.
