Varuna Yajna is considered as the rarest ritual practiced in India. A few consider this practice to be bizarre and others give it utmost importance, but not many people know about the practice of worshiping God of Rains with Varuna Yajna. Here’s how holy men perform the ritual to appease Lord Varuna.

1 In the Vedic phase of Hindu mythology, Lord Varuna is the god of rains and the celestial ocean.

2 Whenever the monsoon is or gets delayed, it is believed that the deity is upset and to please him Varuna Yajna is performed.

3 The temples of Lord Varuna hold gatherings of priests who according to the ritual immerse themselves in water.

4 These holy men stand in barrels filled with water for hours and chant Lord Varuna’s name one lakh times.

5 As the rainfall season is believed to be very auspicious, hence pleasing the Lord Varuna is conducted annually in few villages.

6 In several places, the priests also conduct a full ritual around a sacred fire while reciting special prayers.
