Deputy President William Ruto is in Turkey for the World Humanitarian Summit which will be held on Monday and Tuesday.
Ruto, who is representing President Uhuru Kenyatta, is expected to co-chair the high level leaders’ roundtable on natural disasters and climate change as well as managing risks and crisis.

The meeting is expected to discuss the humanitarian crisis in the world—including the refugee crisis in Kenya.

The roundtable meeting seeks to build on the global agreement in 2015 to commit to a more collective approach to managing risks and increasing investments in preparedness, reinforcing national and local systems as well as agreeing on clear responsibilities and guaranteed finance for early action.

The summit is being held for the first time to address the extraordinary challenges to the current international humanitarian system.

Ruto is accompanied by Interior Cabinet Secretary Joseph Nkaissery, his Principal Secretary Karanja Kibicho and Foreign Affairs Principal Secretary Monica Juma among others.

Kenya has insisted that it will not change its position on closing the world’s largest refugee camp in Dadaab near the border with Somalia despite concerns raised by the United Nations.
