President Trump recently described himself as the only person in US history who could "decimate" ISIS. He said during a cabinet meeting while talking about his Christmas trip to Iraq: "We had a fantastic meeting with the generals and the Syria situation."
"I'm the only person in the history of our country that could really decimate ISIS, say we're bringing the troops back home over a period of time," the president further noted. "I never said so quickly, but over a period of time. But everybody gives me credit for decimating ISIS." Trump also tweeted last month: "We have defeated ISIS in Syria, my only reason for being there during the Trump Presidency." Many disagree that ISIS has been fully vanquished and have expressed concerns that pulling troops from Syria before the nation is stabilized will result in the group's resurgence. Among them is Senator Lindsey Graham, who called Trump's declaration of victory last month, "fake news," and characterized the decision to leave Syria as "disastrous," and a "stain on the honor" of the United States.
