In a major blow to the Congress, its top leader Sajjan Kumar who was handed a life imprisonment for his role in the 1984 anti-Sikh riots case moved an application before the Delhi High Court seeking 30 days to surrender. The court will hear the petition today. Sajjan Kumar mentioned in his plea that he needs time to settle his children and grand children. He mentioned that he has 6 grand children and the life imprisonment came all of a sudden. The matter will be in court at around 10:30am in the court. Earlier this week, the Delhi High Court reversed a trial court's decision and sentenced him to life in connection with the murder of five members’ family in the wake of assassination of then Prime Minister Indra Gandhi in 1984. Sajjan mentioned that he needs time to file an appeal in the Supreme Court as none of the senior advocates were available as SC is on vacation. Kumar had earlier announced that he will move the SC against the Delhi HC' verdict.
