Theresa May vows to fight for Brexit plan despite growing criticism

British Prime Minister Theresa May has announced the agreed draft Brexit deal to the British people.
The announcement, given in a nationally televised press conference on Thursday,.... prompted some of her officials to resign.
Kim Hyesung has the details.
Prime Minister May has vowed to fight for her Brexit deal, facing down a wave of resignations from members of her government and the possibility of a vote of no confidence in her leadership.
At a news conference at 10 Downing Street Thursday, Prime Minister May made clear she had no intention of stepping aside.

"I believe with every fiber of my being that the course I have set out is the right one for our country and all our people...I understand fully that there are some who are unhappy with those compromises but this deal delivers what the people voted for and is in the national interest."

Her statement followed a string of resignations including the Brexit Secretary....and talk of a no-confidence vote from Conservative MPs....in opposition to her draft Brexit agreement and details on the Irish border issue.
May's critics say the fix for the Irish border comes at a high price for the rest of the UK - which will be locked into EU trade rules for years.
The Brexit referendum took place in 2016, but the ultimate outcome remains uncertain,...including May's deal winning approval, Britain leaving the EU bloc with no agreement, or even another referendum.
The British pound fell nearly two percent against the U.S. dollar on Thursday and the main stock index in Ireland plunged nearly four percent....reflecting the ongoing political uncertainty.
