Found to Contain Hidden Drugs A recent study found that from
2007-2016, the U.S. Food and
Drug Administration (FDA) issued
warnings about 776 different supplements. The study published in
JAMA Network Open, is
the first to aggregate the
hundreds of FDA warnings. The supplements
analyzed contained
“undeclared, unapproved
pharmaceutical ingredients." Supplements for sexual
enhancement, weight loss,
or muscle building accounted
for 98% of the FDA's warnings. Viagra, a banned
weight-loss drug and
synthetic steroid-
like ingredients It's estimated that
more than half of U.S.
adults take dietary supplements. A doctor-recommended way of
avoiding unwanted ingredients in
supplements is to purchase
single-ingredient products.
