The flooding brought on by Hurricane Florence in North Carolina left tonnes of unfortunate fish high and dry as water levels receded across the state. As a safety measure, firefighters in Pender County were tasked with using their hoses to clear the carcasses off a stretch of Interstate 40, near Wallace. The Penderlea Fire Department said the extraordinary measure was taken “for the safety of motorists since some of the fish were actually quite large and could be dangerous if hit, or if swerved around.” Credit: Penderlea Fire Department via Storyful
