Major interstate "closed indefinitely" as Delta Fire rages in northern California

The Delta Fire in Shasta County has burned over 40,000 acres and stands at five percent containment, causing Interstate 5 to remain closed until further notice, local reports stated on September 9.

Some 2,400 personnel have been involved in battling the flames fueled by high winds and low humidity. The fire, which began last week, forced motorists traveling on the interstate to abandon their vehicles, some of which were scorched and reduced to debris.

This video, filmed by Grayson Hartman on September 7, shows the fire burning.

It is unknown when the busy interstate, which runs largely parallel to the Pacific coast of the continental U.S. from Mexico to Canada, will reopen, though fire crews expect to work deep into September against the Delta Fire.
