Riot Police Drench Anti-Corruption Protesters With Water in Lima

Anti-corruption protesters marched through the streets of Lima on July 19 following the resignation of Peru’s supreme court president, Duberli Rodriguez.Rodriguez’s resignation follows the release of audio in which he is heard suggesting judicial influence could be paid for.The president of the National Council of the Magistrates, Orlando Velasquez, also resigned.This video shows riot police and anti-corruption demonstrators facing off on Avenida Nicolas de Pierola in Lima. A water cannon is used by police to drench the protesters. The crowds demonstrating are heard chanting, “Peru, te quiero, por eso te defiendo,” which translates as “Peru, I love you, for this reason I defend you.”A female protester is seen passionately chanting through a megaphone while a baby is tied to her on a sling. She is heard shouting “no tenemos nada,” which translates as “we don’t have anything.” Members of the media are seen gathering around the woman with cameras and a microphone.
