£37k arts project for music from beech tree nuts installed on dormant tree

A £37,000 arts project to make music from the sound of nuts falling from a beech tree has descended into farce - after they chose a tree with no nuts. A professional orchestra was awarded a grant to create the TreeSong - an art installation under a massive 100-year-old beech tree. Sensors were strung up under the branches in Durham Down, Bristol, which would be triggered by falling nuts to create live sounds played out through speakers. But just weeks before the debut creators realised the tree only produced nuts biannually - and is dormant this year.
