Surfer still hitting the waves aged 68

Britain's first female surfer who began hitting the waves more than six decades ago is still surfing - despite being 68. Pensioner Gwyn Haslock began surfing in the 1950's and was forced to compete against men as there were no females competitions at the time. She continued to surf on a regular basis and racked up several British titles in the sixties and seventies. Active Gwyn retired four years ago from working as a local government officer at Cornwall Council - enabling her to surf more regularly. She now hits the waves year round at least three times a week alongside her tennis and fencing. Gwyn picked up the extreme sport in the 1950s when her older brother Bob began surfing in Newquay, Cornwall, where the family had a beach hut .
