Evansville Man Goes on Neighborhood Shooting Spree, Killing One

Police in Evansville, Indiana have released security camera footage that showed a man launch a deadly shooting spree before fatally wounded in a confrontation with SWAT officers on Friday, May 11.Evansville Police Department released footage obtained from a neighbor’s security camera shows Barry Freeman, 51, fire several rounds from a shotgun and an AR-15 rifle and then appeared to wait to ambush the responding police officers. Four police cars, four houses and two nearby businesses were damaged by the gunfire, but no officers were injured.According to reports from Courier & Press, Freeman shot and killed his neighbor Jeffery Kempf, 56, after mistaking him for a police officer.The entire shooting spree lasted about an hour, with Freeman walking through the 2400 block of North Kentucky Avenue firing off rounds. He was eventually shot by an officer and taken to Deaconess Hospital, where he died on Sunday, May 13 from two gunshot wounds to the chest. Credit: Evansville Police Department
