Despite trying his best and after aping the humans he swears he has seen drawing water from this weird metallic machine, this langur monkey cannot pull out any water, until... See what happens!
Wilderness Films India editor and field production-person Varun heads to a hand-pump for a drink of water and as soon as he pumps out water, along comes an otherwise shy and wild langur monkey and shockingly drinks from it, displaying an enormous amount of confidence! If langurs could thank, Varun would have been in for a huge simian hug!
This little drama took place at Ranthambhor National Park earlier this week, while our wildfilmsindia crew were out on assignment for an educational NGO film.
Parched in the autumn heat of Rajasthan - India's desert state - the simian had earlier tried to pump out water, but failed on many an occasion. He knew that the pump was activated by hand cranking the lever, as he had seen many humans doing so before him. Learned behaviour of an advanced kind! However, the poor chap was just not heavy or strong enough to pump, even after utilizing the maximum torque available through the lengthy lever!
He sat atop the pump, in desperation, awaiting a gullible human philanthropic victim! Animal intelligence in action... Smart monkey!
