Laura: Hi, my name is Laura. Im a model with Models International. Your host is Ron Sullivan. And today, were going to show you how to use gelled off camera lighting. Thanks.\r
Ron: Thanks, Laura. Welcome to anotherof “Whats up in photography”. Today, were going to use a couple of things. Well use the AG pack 20 color photographic gels. Which, you can buy at Amazon. Were using our standard newer flash, which again, you can buy on Amazon for $50-60. And, were using Cus Wizards to fire the flashes.\r
Next, Lauras going to give you a demonstration of what the gels look like in the package.\r
Laura will then show how to put the gel holder on and include the gels into the holder.\r
For the ual session we did at the studio, we ually did more set ups than were ually showing in this video. But, for the next segment, I wanted to show you were just using like a maroon colored gel which were bounding off the studio well. Im then putting a blue gel on my other flash, which Im pointing at Laura, the model. And, youll see what the images look like using this effect.\r
My suggestion is when youre playing with gels and youre using off camera flash, try a bunch of different combination of colors. Look at complimentary colors, try different poses with your model, use different wall surfaces- Im just using the studio wall for this shoot. Try lighting from the side. Try lighting from above. Try different techniques.\r
Here are some before and after images from the shoot using the maroon gel on the wall and the blue gel on Laura. And, Im just using different ions that I have. I think, for this specific one I used On Perfect One Effects using different borders and cross-processing or processing. I like to play around with different effects. Sometimes Im amazed just by clicking a few buttons, the effects you can get. Showed these images to Laura- she loves them. So, it was an effective shoot. Really, a low dollar shoot. Didnt cost us a lot of money. The flash, the gels and everything well under $100. You can do this anywhere in your house.\r
For the next segment, I used a green gel on the wall and a yellow gel on Laura and its creates a bit of a different effect. Again, I ran it post production, I think On Perfect Effects. Just playing around with different things. I always like to try different techniques. Sometimes, I just do them old school, just adjust them myself using adjustment layers in Photoshop. Sometimes, I use a purchased ion. Sometimes, I use other tools that I have. I use Topaz at times. Whatever I can use to create a powerful image.\r
Hope you enjoyed this segment. We really enjoyed this shoot. Were going to be doing a lot more with gels and off camera flashes using strobes. Thanks, have a great day.\r
