How to Make a Chain Weapon for Marvel Legends Ghost Rider\r
The Marvel Legends Ghost Rider is a great ion figure, but he really needs his mystic chain weapon. Today, Im going to show you one method to make a poseable chain for your Ghost Rider.\r
\r
The materials youll need for this project are:\r
A chain (Im using 14 inches of chain.)\r
Wire. (Im using 18 gauge aluminum wire in an antique brass color.) \r
Pliers\r
Wire cutters\r
A fine detail hot glue gun. The Amazon link for the one Im using is: \r
Glue sticks\r
Paint pallet\r
Paint brush\r
Apple Barrel paints in Canary Yellow, Yellow, Apricot, and Pumpkin\r
And you will also need some kind of glass surface. Im using a glass bowl.\r
\r
If youre using a necklace as a chain, you need to begin by removing both sides of the clasp from the necklace using your pliers. You can grab both sides of the link connecting the clasp and twist in opposite directions to open the link. \r
\r
After removing the clasp, I have about 14 inches of chain to work with. Next, thread your chain through the wire by threading the wire through every other link of the chain. \r
\r
After your chain is all the way through your wire, use your pliers to twist the end of the wire to the last link of your chain. Smooth out your wire by pinching the wire to the contours of the chain. This way the chain will be more flat and it will be the wire that will be wavy. \r
\r
After youve smoothed out your chain, you can cut the end of your wire. I recommend leaving several centimeters of space to work with on the end. Twist the free end of the wire around the last link of the chain. You can trim off any extra wire after twisting your knot.\r
\r
Now at this point, you can stop if you just want your Ghost Rider to have a flexible chain.\r
\r
If you want to add flame effects to the end of the chain, start by adding hot glue to all sides of one tip of the chain. While that is cooling down, make points of the flames by piping some hot glue on the sides of a glass bowl. Make a bunch of these elongated triangle shapes so that you can pick the best ones to use. \r
\r
It wont take long for your glue to cool on the sides of the bowl. Once it is cool, you can easily pick it off with a knife or your nails.\r
\r
Start applying the elongated triangles to the tip of the chain that was previously covered with glue. For each point, you want to put down a small drop of hot glue and quickly attach the triangle. Youll only need to hold each piece for a few seconds before the glue is cool enough that it will support the weight. Apply as many pieces as you want. \r
\r
Once your hot glue has cooled, you can start painting it. Youll want to add some water to your paint to dilute it. Adding water makes the paint thinner and will help retain the translucent appearance of the hot glue.\r
\r
I started off with my lightest yellow, which is Canary Yellow. Im only painted in between the flames with this color.\r
\r
Its best if you allow your paint to dry a bit before moving on to the next color. The next color Im using is Yellow. This color Im going to apply to the bottom base of the flames.\r
\r
Then Im using Apricot to color the middle section of the flames.\r
\r
Finally, Im using the Pumpkin to paint the very tips of the flames.\r
\r
The most important thing to keep in mind with this project is you want to select a chain with links large enough that you can thread a wire through. Yet you dont want to go too large of chain because then your wire may have trouble supporting the weight of the chain.\r
