New paths to cure cancer emerge from immunotherapy trials

At the National Institutes of Health, a team of doctors is working to cure cancer using immunotherapy treatments. An initial trial led by Dr. Christian Hinrichs targeted cancers caused by human papillomavirus (HPV), and saw successes in several patients who are now celebrating five years cancer-free. The cells of one patient even led to a new discovery that may be helpful in killing other kinds of solid tumors.
