Hillary Clinton has offered an explanation for some controversial statements she recently made regarding Trump supporters, reports CBS News. Those comments came during an interview in India and in response to questions about what President Trump's election says about the current state of the U.S.  Clinton offered a variety of explanations, including the suggestions that Trump supporters are more nostalgic than forward-thinking and female voters are still largely influenced by their husbands.  She addressed those topics in a Saturday Facebook post, writing, in part, "As I said throughout the campaign, Trump's message was dark and backwards looking. I don't need to list the reasons, but the foundation of his message, 'Make America Great AGAIN' suggests that to be great we have to go back to something we are no longer. I never accepted that and never will."  "There is anecdotal evidence and some research to suggest that women are unfortunately more swayed by men than the other way around," Clinton also noted. "As much as I hate the possibility, and hate saying it, it's not that crazy when you think about our ongoing struggle to reach gender balance--even within the same household."
However, Clinton did note that she "meant no disrespect to any individual or group." Among those who spoke out against her original comments was U.S. Senator Dick Durbin, a Democrat from Illinois. "My friend Hillary Clinton is wrong," he told 'Fox News Sunday.' "Thirty percent of the people who voted for Donald Trump had voted for President Obama. Why?" "The same people who looked for change with President Obama thought there wasn't enough, as far as their personal lives were concerned, and they supported Donald Trump," Durbin continued. "That is a reality the Democrats acknowledge."
