ISLAMABAD: Maryam Nawaz, daughter of former premier Nawaz Sharif, on Wednesday challenged a verdict of an accountability court that allowed two National Accountability Bureau (NAB) witnesses to testify via video link in the London Avenfield Apartments case.
Maryam moved a petition through her counsel Amjad Pervaiz in the Islamabad High Court (IHC), assailing the Feb 2 verdict of the accountability court.
She requested the court to set aside the trial court’s verdict in question.
On Feb 2, Accountability Judge Muhammad Bashir granted a request by a NAB prosecutor to record the testimonies of two witnesses through a video link at the Pakistan High Commission in London.
Two British nationals – Robert W Radley, the principal at the Radley Forensic Document Laboratory and Akhtar Raja, the principal at the Quist Solicitors – have been named as prosecution witnesses in a supplementary reference filed in a case pertaining to the Sharif family’s London properties.
According to the supplementary reference, Sharif’s daughter Maryam Nawaz and son Hussain Nawaz provided fake documents to a joint investigation team appointed to probe the ruling family’s wealth with regard to the flats in a pricey London neighbhourhood.
The reference stated that the Sharifs failed to provide the money trail behind the purchase of the Avenfield flats and the Trust Deed between Maryam and Hussain presented to the JIT found to be fake.
Naming Nawaz Sharif, his daughter Maryam Nawaz, sons – Hussain and Hasan – and son-in-law Captain (retd) Safdar as accused in the reference, it maintained they have committed corruption, which is punishable act under Section 10 of the National Accountability Ordinance.
The supplementary reference included seven witnesses, including expert of the Radley Forensic Document Laboratory in London, Robert W. Radley and solicitor.
TV interviews of the former premier, Maryam, Hasan and Hussain have also been made a part of the evidence.
