Rosie Mayglothling, Technical Coordinator for British Rowing, introduces the conference: 'Improving Performance Naturally, Transferring Sport Science and Medicine to Boat Speed' and pays thanks to all those that contributed to the organising and execution of the conference.

Jean-Christophe Rolland, Head of FISA, (Fédération Internationale des Sociétés d'Aviron: World Rowing Federation) continues the welcome from 10.28 talking about the value placed on health and how it contributes to sporting performance.

Speaker Biography
Rosie Mayglothling, Technical Coordinator for British Rowing, has been a mainstay within British Rowing since 1975 when she represented GB at the World Rowing Championships in the Women’s Eight. Over the next eight years she represented GB and competed at the 1980 Moscow Olympics. Rosie studied for a degree in movement studies at West London Institute and in 1981, whilst still a student, she took time out of rowing to coach the Oxford University Women's boat race crews to victory in both the Varsity and reserve eights. In 1983 she was appointed as a National Coach with responsibility for Women's Rowing. Over the course of the next 18 years, as well as promoting women's rowing and coach education, Rosie held various roles in the international team, including assistant team manager and crew coach. In 2001, she was appointed Technical Co-ordinator for British Rowing and has worked through a very successful period for the GB Rowing Team. Rosie has responsibility for the coach education curriculum, chairs the Technical Panel and manages the sports science and research for the GB Rowing Team.

Improving Performance Naturally: Sports Science & Medicine Conference for the World’s Leading Sports Scientists and Medical Practitioners in Rowing

The Sports Science & Medicine Conference was held for the first time at the SAS UK & Ireland company headquarters in Marlow. The conference had delegates attend from a variety of Sports Science and Medical disciplines, who travelled from within the UK and around the world – all attracted by an exciting programme which boasts an impressive list of speakers from the leading edge of research and practice. The event was supported by UK Sport and FISA and proved to be a great success.
