Turkey is Trying to Give an NBA Player a Four-Year Prison Sentence Enes Kanter, a Turkish basketball player for the New York Knicks, has been vocal in the past about his politcal beliefs for his home country. Now, the Turkish government is now seeking a four-year prison term for Kanter, claiming he insulted President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on Twitter in 2016. According to the Associated Press, Kanter will be tried in absentia. Earlier this year, Kanter was detained in Romania after the Turkish government canceled his passport.
