PRESENTED BY MARK YOCUM

Army Gideon is a high-energy group of musicians who as individuals have shared stages with reggae giants like The Wailers, Dennis Brown, The Abyssinians, Yellowman, Apple Gabriel, I-Wayne, Midnite, Julian Marley and Anthony B, to name a few.

The members have roots in the Caribbean, but are based in Fort Lauderdale just north of Miami. They're led by lead singer Anbesa and are rounded out by Lion on lead guitar, bassist Sheldon, drummer Spice, keyboardist Cabbage and Chico on the trumpet.

"We always stick to the foundation, which is reggae," says Anbesa. "But our music is very electric, and can remind you of jazz or blues or funk or hip hop -- because we like to incorporate everything."

For Army Gideon, whose concerts can last up to four hours, the message is as important as the beat. "Our lyrics advocate equal rights & justice, universal love, and most importantly Ras Tafari awareness through a militant persona. Our music is the sufferers' music, which communicates with all walks of human existence . . . diverse rhythmic progressions to make you move, and conscious-melodic lyrics to uplift the generations."
