Kalen-ja is an emerging Cairns band creating waves with their trademark funk-groove fusions.
Combining classic soul, jazz and latin numbers, along with original tunes by Juli Auriane. Juli’s sweet vocals, interwoven with keyboard/synth and flute are fueled by layers of poly-rhythms and colour tones on Guitar by Hiroe Saitoh plus driving, funky Bass riffs by Aleta Tulk. Kalen-ja consistently draws audiences in with their pulsing beats, sweet licks and improvisations, which often also attract seasoned performers into their mix, to sit in and groove with the girls for the evening.
Performance highlights over the past 12 months include Recognition Day Concert, Jazz on the Green, Carnival on Collins, Millaa Millaa Bogan Bash and Gimuy Fish Festival, with regular appearances on Cairns Esplanade Lagoon and Uncovered Original Music Nites at The Jack.
