Jaymay spent her childhood in Long Island, where she was raised alongside five siblings and developed an early love for books, violin, piano, and the Bob Dylan songbook. Following college, she relocated to Manhattan with the intention of pursuing a publishing career, but a successful performance at a local open mic night convinced her to focus on songwriting instead. More performances followed, and Jaymay released Jaymay & Kayoko and the Sea Green, See Blue EP in 2006.

Over the years, Jaymay has had songs featured on many TV shows and movies including How I Met Your Mother, Stephen King's A Good Marriage, and happythankyoumoreplease.
