Calato is a musical project led by peruvian composer and guitar player Diego Huayhualla. Calato’s music could be described as “new peruvian folk”, based in a mix style between traditional Peruvian music and a more contemporary style of composition. In May, 2016, Calato released his first album “Calato”, recorded in Aldaba Records by Rafael de la Lama and produced by Hernando Suarez. Musicians who participated in the albumz include Naiara Eslava (vocals), Luis Ernesto Tohara (Percusion), Hernando Suarez (bass guitar), Jorge Cavero (flute and saxophone), Teté Leguía (Double bass), Fiorella Marky and Melissa Torres (backing vocals). The album features seven tracks including Negra, Girasol and Eco. In 2016 the project moves to Barcelona, Spain. Yexza Lara (vocals and flute), Cristina García (backing vocals and flute), Jankely Del Águila (percusion), Mark Farrely (keyboards, guitar, violin) and Bryan Curtis (percusión) joined Huayhualla as the new band members. In September 2016, Calato briefly returned to Peru for some gigs and media appearences with original members of the band, besides Jorge Cavero and Teté Leguía. Tapio Keihas (keyboards and charang), Sandra Reaño (saxophone) and Joshi Guzmán (percusión) who also joined. Calato returned to Spain in mid October 2016.
