Kellyanne Conway commented on President Trump's "short and fat" tweet, saying, Kim Jong Un insulted him first.
Kellyanne Conway is claiming that President Trump's tweet calling North Korean leader Kim Jong-un "short and fat" was simply a response to "somebody who insulted him first."
The White House counselor made the comment during an interview on ABC News' "This Week" after she was asked about the name calling.
"I think that was the president just responding the way he does to somebody who insulted him first," Conway said.
The exchange was prompted by a tweet posted by Trump hour prior.
"Why would Kim Jong-un insult me by calling me 'old,' when I would NEVER call him 'short and fat?'" Trump wrote in his tweet. "Oh well, I try so hard to be his friend - and maybe someday that will happen!"
During his Asia trip, the president has been speaking out about the need for other countries to work with the U.S. in forcing North Korea to denuclearize.
According to Time, the regime's foreign ministry had issued a statement, saying in response to Trump's criticisms against them, "Reckless remarks by an old lunatic like Trump will never scare us or stop our advance."
