Sandberg Admits 'Things Happened' On Facebook 'Platform That Shouldn't Have Happened'

Sheryl Sandberg recently admitted that "things happened on [Facebook's] platform that shouldn't have happened."
Facebook's Chief Operating Officer Sheryl Sandberg admitted on Thursday that "things happened on [Facebook's] platform that shouldn't have happened."
In an interview with Axios, Sandberg spoke about the Russian-linked ads intended to influence the 2016 presidential election.
“We know we have a responsibility to prevent everything we can from this happening on our platforms...and so we told Congress and the Intelligence committees that when they are ready to release the ads, we are ready to help them," she said.
Her comments came one day after the House Intelligence Committee announced its intention to release to the pubic the roughly 3,000 purchased postings it received from Facebook.
Sandberg said of the content in question, “These ads are divisive, and they are down, and the pages are down, because they are from fake accounts ...”
Earlier in the week, the New York Times published a report about some of those pages and the material shared by them.
“An examination of hundreds of those posts shows that one of the most powerful weapons that Russian agents used to reshape American politics was the anger, passion and misinformation that real Americans were broadcasting across social media platforms,” the Times noted.
