'Never again!' Customer's fury after Ryanair cancels flight as she waits in airport lounge
A RYANAIR customer was left raging after her flight was cancelled whilst her family was waiting in the departure lounge. Ryanair customer Kellie Roffee was waiting for her flight with her family when she received a text message from the airline telling her the flight was cancelled. The budget airline has infuriated customers by cancelling hundreds of flights, at short notice, leaving 400,000 passengers with disruption. Speaking to LBC, Ms Roffee, a mother-of-five, had her flight cancelled as she waited in the departure lounge of the airport with her family. She said: “They'd taken our bags, we'd gone through passport control. “We were sat there with the children, waiting in the lounge for about 45 minutes and I read this text. We were absolute devastated.” The mother said that the family had paid £2,000 to go on their dream holiday celebrating husband’s birthday.“We've had no apology from Ryanair,” she added.“Now we've been told it's going to take at least 28 working days for us to receive any money back.“It needs to be sorted out, we're going through hell trying to get our money back. My daughter wakes up every day and asks me 'Are we going on holiday today mummy?' “I will never fly Ryanair again.”The airline said the move was to “improve its system-wide punctuality” after a sharp decrease in flights arriving on time in recent weeks. Ryanair has also had to deal with an error in the allocation of leave for pilots. The flight cancellations were revealed as the airline lost 140 pilots to Norwegian Air, but Ryanair said the two incidents were not linked.Ryanair CEO Michael O’Leary said: “While over 98 per cent of our customers will not be affected by these cancellations over the next six weeks, we apologise unreservedly to those customers whose travel will be disrupted, and assure them that we have done our utmost to try to ensure that we can re-accommodate most of them on alternative flights on the same or next day.

“Ryanair is not short of pilots – we were able to fully crew our peak summer schedule in June, July and August – but we have messed up the allocation of annual leave to pilots in September and October because we are trying to allocate a full year’s leave into a nine-month period from April to December. “This issue will not recur in 2018 as Ryanair goes back onto a 12-month calendar leave year from 1st Jan to 31st December 2018.“This is a mess of our own making. I apologise sincerely to all our customers for any worry or concern this has caused them over the past weekend.” The European Union also stepped in and urged Ryanair to comply with EU passenger rights, including possible compensation.  A European Commission spokesman told a press conference in Brussels: “Airlines operating in the EU need to respect the European rules. “Passengers whose flights are cancelled have a comprehensive set of rights. We have to check if all this is respected by Ryanair.” Airlines are obliged to pay compensation for flights cancelled with less than two week’s notice. Passengers can claim up to €250 for distances of up to 1,500km, and a maximum of €600 for longer distances. . 00FastNews.
