The streets of Sao Paulo were filled with color this summer for the city's annual Star Festival, known by its Japanese name of Tanabata Matsuri. More than 100,000 people attend the traditional Japanese holiday, which is held on the seventh of July. The celebration features "wish strips" called Tanzaku, which are gathered and burned. But, why Sao Paulo? Because the most populous city in Brazil has the largest Japanese community outside of Japan in the world.
