The west of Scotland is known for many things – its beautiful scenery, its wildlife, its temperate climate.

But it is also a region prone to earthquakes – and the biggest one for 30 years has made itself felt.

Experts at the British Geological survey say earthquake measured 3.8 on the Richter scale and was centred on Moidart.

A smaller tremor, registering 1.5 on the scale, was centred on Kingussie.

When was the last earthquake of this size in area?
