U.S. Attorney General Jeff Sessions has called President Trump’s verbal attacks against him “kind of hurtful.”

U.S. Attorney General Jeff Sessions has called President Trump’s verbal attacks against him “kind of hurtful.”
He made the comment in an interview with Fox News’ Tucker Carlson, who asked, “You’ve seen the president’s criticism of you, do you think it’s fair?”
Sessions said, “Well, it’s kind of hurtful, but the President of the United States is a strong leader. He is determined to move this country in the direction he believes it needs to go to make us great again.”
He added, “[The president] has had a lot of criticisms, and he’s steadfastly determined to get his job done, and he wants all of us to do our jobs, and that’s what I intend to do.”
Meanwhile, according to an Associated Press, or AP, report, Sessions indicated in a separate interview that he knows he could be replaced at any time, saying, “I serve at the pleasure of the president. I’ve understood that from the day I took the job.”
Over the past week or so, Trump has continued to make public comments against Sessions with regards to his oversight of the Russia investigation; the onslaught began in a New York Times piece where the president said, “Sessions should have never recused himself, and if he was going to recuse himself, he should have told me before he took the job and I would have picked somebody else.”
Trump repeated these remarks during a press conference Tuesday, saying, “I am disappointed in the attorney general. He should not have recused himself.”
The president reportedly believes Sessions’ decision resulted in the special counsel investigation currently headed by former FBI Director Robert Mueller.
However, as an NBC News report points out, “Trump has thus far refused to fire Sessions, leading some to speculate he’s waiting until the August congressional recess, when he could name a replacement who would not require Senate confirmation.”
