NH becomes 22nd state to decriminalize marijuana

New Hampshire Gov. Chris Sununu helped his state become the 22nd in the nation to eliminate the possibility of jail time for marijuana possession. Back in May and June, the measure passed the Republican-led legislature and will take effect in about two months. Under the new law, a person will be fined $100 for possessing up to three-quarters of an ounce of marijuana. The original fine was $2,000. Legislative analyst Matt Simon stated: “There is no good reason to continue arresting and prosecuting people for marijuana possession. This is a big step toward a more sensible marijuana policy for New Hampshire.” Decriminalizing weed has been done by both red and blue states, including Delaware, Illinois, Mississippi, and Nebraska.
