Did we mention that it’s in Wonsan, North Korea?Songdowon was opened in the 1960s but was advertised only to families in DPRK-friendly states. The camp eventually fell into decay after the country’s economic crisis, but has recently been reconstructed. Sunshiney Songdowon now hosts about 300 children every summer, with kids attending from Russia, China, Brazil, Tanzania, Pakistan, Vietnam, and Nigeria. Of course, these children have to live separately from the Korean children at camp, but in the evenings they are allowed to dance together and communicate via interpreters.The eight-day camp costs $270, and in addition to a swimming pool, Russian organizers say that children are taken to the circus, dolphinarium, and shown the village where Kim Il Sung was born.The fun doesn’t stop.
