Drudge Report Breaks Pro-Trump Tradition, Highlights NYT Story About Trump Jr.

The Drudge Report has been an ardent Trump supporter. It broke that tradition on Tuesday, publishing a header that features a picture of Russia’s St. Basil Cathedral, the words ‘THE EMAIL,’ and link to the New York Times’ report about Donald Trump Jr.’s June 2016 meeting with a Russian lawyer.

The Drudge Report, run by Matt Drudge, has been an ardent Trump supporter.
It broke that tradition on Tuesday, publishing a header that features a picture of Russia’s St. Basil Cathedral, the words ‘THE EMAIL,’ and link to the New York Times’ report about Donald Trump Jr.’s June 2016 meeting with a Russian, Kremlin-associated lawyer.
Over the weekend, the Times revealed that Donald Trump Jr., while working on his father’s presidential campaign, agreed to meet with attorney Natalia Veselnitskaya after she alleged that she had harmful information about Hillary Clinton.
The president's son and Veselnitskaya say that nothing substantive regarding Clinton or the campaign was discussed.
According to the New York Times, an email sent to Donald Trump Jr. in advance of the meeting suggests otherwise. The media outlet reported late on Monday that he, “was informed in an email that the material was part of a Russian government effort to aid his father’s candidacy, according to three people with knowledge of the email.”
The Drudge Report’s acknowledgment of that story has some journalists speculating the relationship between Drudge and President Trump is in peril, notes the Daily Caller.
One reporter affiliated with the New York Times tweeted, “When do media supporters head for the lifeboats?”
Mic's Tom McKay expressed surprise as well, saying via Twitter, “holy cow, even DRUDGE is turning on donald trump jr.”
