The White House is denying that the CNN wrestling video tweeted by President Trump was taken from a Reddit user who has reportedly posted racist and aggressive comments in the past.
The clip shows Trump slamming his opponent, a man whose head has been replaced by a CNN logo, to the ground.
Not long after the president shared the video, a user who goes by the name Han*******Solo took to a pro-Trump Reddit board to express how happy he is that his video was shared by “the MAGA EMPEROR himself!!!”
Neither his claim nor that of the White House has been verified, according to NPR.
It has been noted that while the two clips are similar, Trump’s version has sound and graphics not featured in the other, reports ABC News.
Nonetheless, the video’s association with Han*******Solo has emerged as problematic since a notable portion of his Reddit activity reportedly targets minorities, notes CNN.
In a statement, Jonathan A. Greenblatt, the CEO of the Anti-Defamation league, said, “This individual traffics in online hatred and at times violent rhetoric, has created an image labeling CNN journalists with Stars of David and has written about stabbing Muslims among other violent rhetoric. When those on the fringes of society feel their messaging is getting mainstream attention, that should raise alarms for all Americans across the political spectrum that reject hatred and bigotry."
