President Trump is reportedly gaining weight and displaying other signs of physical and emotional stress related to the ongoing Russia investigation plaguing his administration.
According to the Washington Post, “Trump’s longtime friends say his mood has been more sour than at any point since they have known him. They privately worry about his health, noting that he appears to have gained weight in recent months and that the darkness around his eyes reveals his stress.”
The piece also reveals, based on inside sources, that his team has implemented a system of early morning calls to discuss the investigation so that “he will no longer be consumed by the Russia probe that he complains hangs over his presidency like a darkening cloud.”
Meanwhile, CNN’s Gloria Borger noted late last month that, after Trump’s first foreign trip, he returned “just as he left -- lonely, angry and not happy with much of anyone.”
According to CNN, An unnamed associate of the president was quoted as saying, “He now lives within himself, which is a dangerous place for Donald Trump to be.”
The person added, “I see him emotionally withdrawing. He's gained weight. He doesn't have anybody whom he trusts.”
And the trend seems to be continuing, with Politico reporting that, earlier this week, Trump gave one of his earliest advocates, White House counsel Don McGahn, “a dressing down in the Oval Office for not doing more to quash the Russia probe early on.”
Despite these more negative accounts, the Post notes that “Hope Hicks, Trump’s director of strategic communications...said the president is optimistic and expressing the fighting spirit that appeals to voters.”
