European researchers reported on Monday that pregnancy changes a woman’s brain, and the changes last for at least two years. The research team reported that it's possible to tell if a woman has had a child "simply by looking at her brain scans." In the report, researchers wrote, "“Our data provide the first evidence that pregnancy confers long-lasting changes in a woman’s brain." Women who had just given birth had less gray matter in the cerebral cortex. The team also reported that the bigger the changes were the more attachment the mother showed to the baby. The report was published in the journal Nature Neuroscience.
