Jenny McKenna, a 34 year old accomplished triathlete and cyclist, after a tragic accident is now facing an uncertain future, a long with over 6500 other young Australians who are forced into Age Care Nursing Home to receive the on going care they desperately need.
With Jenny McKenna’s discharge from the Brain Injury Unit at Westmead now imminent the options for “age appropriate” care are limited. And the only option to date for Jenny McKenna is to receive the 24 hour care needed from her parents who are aged in their 70s. Jenny’s father John McKenna said “It is extraordinary, frustrating and disappointing that Jenny’s only options are prohibitively expensive private care or aged care nursing homes”.
The Jenny McKenna Foundation was established to provide long term financial support for Jenny and to highlight the need for facilities for young people in the same predicament.
Recent Perth business owner Mal Emery heard of Jenny McKenna’s tragic story and arranged a charity auction on the Gold Coast where he auctioned a “Mars Bar” for $60,000 by adding over $176,000 worth of donations from fellow business owners.
On Wednesday the 28 May 2008 Jenny McKenna will be presented with a $60,000 donation from Perth businessman Mal Emery. The cheque will be presented personally to Jenny McKenna by Chen Tay on behalf of Mal Emery at the Brain Injury Unit at Westmead in Sydney on Wednesday 28 May 2008 at 11:00am.
Ganngjalah Cultural Gardens – is a group of dedicated volunteers working together with the Bundjalung people of Northern New South Wales in Australia to establish an environmental and cultural education centre which is helping to cool our planet as well as showing many other people how to take the same simple steps in their own environment.
