Donald Trump Jr. appears to have mocked students at Duquesne University for protesting the possible addition of a Chick-fil-A on campus over LGBTQ issues, notes Fortune.
On Thursday, the president’s son tweeted a Daily Caller article about the controversy with the message, “Luckily these students wont likely have to tackle issues more stressful than a yummy chicken sandwich in their lives...Oh Wait #triggered.”
According to Urban Dictionary, the word "triggered is when someone gets offended or gets their feelings hurt, often used in memes to describe feminist[s], or people with strong victimization.”
The Daily Caller piece reports that students’ main point of contention against Chick-fil-A involves company CEO Dan Cathy’s comments advocating for traditional marriage amid the push for gay marriage rights.
Cathy was quoted in 2012 as saying, “I pray God’s mercy on our generation that has such a prideful, arrogant attitude that thinks we have the audacity to redefine what marriage is all about.”
As such, Niko Martini, the student leading the protest told the campus newspaper, “Chick-fil-A has a questionable history on civil rights and human rights.”
While Rachel Coury, another school leader, is quoted as saying, “I’ve tried very hard within the last semester and a half to promote this safe environment for the LGBTQ+ community. So I fear that with the Chick-fil-A...maybe people will feel that safe place is at risk.”
The school’s plan to offer a Chick-fil-A Express for the Fall 2017 semester has not yet been canceled, but additional research into these issues is reportedly being conducted.
