Learning to ollie would the most important basic trick to learn on a snowboard.

There are just a few basic steps that you need, once you have the basics, just practice getting higher and higher.

The first step is to make sure that you are riding straight, with your snowboard flat on the ground (not turning or using your edges).

Keep your shoulders, hips and knees roughly in line.

Bend your knees, and start to roll or shift your weight over the tail of the board, while lifting your front foot up.

This will bend the tail of your board, which will help to pop or spring your back leg up.

Pull your knees up towards your chest a little. Keep them slightly bent so they are ready to absorb the landing.

Try and land evenly on both feet.

The trick is just to find the nice balance point between how far you can move your weight back over the tail, and how much you can lift your front foot forward, so that you still keep your balance and stay centered in the air.
