The Piton de la Fournaise Volcano on the French island of La Réunion erupted for four days in a row, between January 31 and February 3. This video shows the phenomenon in the early hours of February 2.To capture these images, Eric Gentelet walked for more than 3 hours in the night to arrive at 2,000 meters (1.2 miles) elevation just before sunrise.
“I began walking by night at 3 am to arrive when the sun was rising, to have the best light and be sure not to get too much rain when coming back,” he said.
