Lava and Smoke Seen at Leilani Estates as Kilauea Continues to Erupt

Lava, smoke and fire were seen at Leilani Estates, Hawaii, as the Kilauea volcano continued to erupt on May 9.The US Geological Survey’s Hawaiian Volcano Observatory said at least two new volcanic vents were disrupting the other fissures nearby, causing “loud jetting and booming sounds, and some [lava] spattering.”At least 26 homes in Leilani Estates had been destroyed by lava flows since the May 4 earthquake.
