UNICEF: Malawi needs $22m to fight child hunger

UNICEF Malawi is appealing for $22 million from the international community to support nearly a million malnourished children, who are suffering as a result of acute food shortages in the country. Last December, the organisation began a mass screening programme, after a report showed that 2.8 million people were in need of urgent food aid, as the country faced a combination of challenges including El Nino weather patterns, recovery from the 2015 floods, a stagnant economy and a prolonged drought.
