Shocking footage has emerged allegedly showing an apparent confrontation between "Southern Rail" staff and a passenger at Brighton Station.

According to the filmer, the incident happened at around 8:30pm last night and occurred because the passenger took his phone out to film his complaint.

A spokesperson for Govia Thameslink Railway, who operate Southern, clarified the situation from their perspective, saying: “We understand how difficult and frustrating it is for our passengers but it is also a difficult time for our staff who are doing their best under challenging circumstances.

"We are investigating but we believe the incident began when the passenger refused to show his ticket."

"Our station assistant left off helping another passenger only to be filmed at very close quarters. Our colleague felt intimidated and was trying to block the camera and move away," he continued.
