President-elect Donald Trump tweeted flag burning should be outlawed on Tuesday, resulting in forfeiture of U.S. citizenship or jail time. Laws prohibiting the burning of the American flag were found to have violated the First Amendment of the Constitution by the Supreme Court. In 1958, a Supreme Court decision prevented the denial or stripping of citizenship as a criminal punishment.
