The NCAA has ordered Notre Dame to forfeit wins from 2012 and 2013 after an NCAA investigation found the program guilty of academic misconduct. The list of penalties is extensive, even without including the vacated wins. The NCAA also declared a one year of probation, a two-year show-cause order for the former trainer, a two-year disassociation of the former trainer and a $5000 fine. During the two seasons in question, Notre Dame went a combined 21-5 with two bowl appearances, including losing to Alabama in the BCS title game in 2012. Both head coach Brian Kelly and the Notre Dame president Rev. John Jenkins have said the penalties imposed are too harsh and that the school plans to appeal the decision.
