In an upcoming book from CNN, titled 'Unprecedented: The Election That Changed Everything,' it is revealed that Donald Trump didn’t anticipate surviving the presidential race for very long.
The author, Thomas Lake, writes, “Trump told Christie in 2015 that he didn't expect to make it past October—at which point he would endorse Christie, according to a Christie adviser who asked not to be named in order to speak about behind-the-scenes maneuvers."
Also noted in the book is that Trump and Christie’s bond was fortified by a shared dislike of Senator Marco Rubio of Florida.
Upon becoming elected, Trump picked Christie to lead his transition team, but he was swiftly replaced by Mike Pence.
