When Alex’s mom, Nadine, comes for a visit, Alex expresses her anxiety about her mother’s tendency to treat her like she’s still fifteen. She prepares herself for a weekend of smothering, but when Nadine arrives, Alex realizes her mom is actually independent and relaxed and busy. This new version of her mother throws Alex for a loop and their roles are reversed. With a little help from her friends, Alex realizes that everybody should be allowed to change. Even mothers.
